Natural Disaster

The ACOFP Foundation’s Natural and Personal Disaster Fund, an Auxiliary to the ACOFP initiative, was developed as an essential support system for osteopathic family physicians facing the daunting task of resupplying and managing their practices after a natural or personal disaster. Originally established in 2005, the fund was created in response to the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Katrina. Many physicians saw their practice facilities severely damaged or completely destroyed, leaving them in urgent need of resources to rebuild and continue providing care to their communities. The fund offered critical assistance, helping these physicians navigate the complex challenges of practice management in the wake of such a disaster. In 2011, the fund once again fulfilled its mission by extending much-needed support to physicians in Joplin, Missouri, whose practices were disrupted by devastating tornadoes. Through these efforts, the fund has consistently reinforced its commitment to ensuring that osteopathic family physicians can continue their vital work, even in the most challenging circumstances.
