Alberto Santos III, DO, MBA, MS is a Senior Clinical Solutions Medical Director for the Gene-based, Cellular, and other Innovative Therapy (GCIT) products and the National Medical Excellence (NME)transplant program within the Special Case Pre-certification Unit (SCPU) of Medical Policy and Operations (MPO) at Aetna/CVS Health.
Alberto is board-certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians with over ten years in administrative medicine and continues part-time clinical practice with over twenty years of experience in hospice and family medicine. He has previously served as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Texas HealthScience Center.
Dr. Santos graduated from Trinity University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology; Southwest Texas State University with a Master of Science in Biology; Texas A&M Corpus Christi with a Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance; and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from theUniversity of North Texas Health Science Center –Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment in Corpus Christi.
He opened his own medical clinic in San Marcos, Texas and grew the practice to a three-provider group with hospital, nursing home, and home visits in addition to the outpatient clinic. He sold this practice and moved into administrative medicine. Dr. Santos continues to attend patients as a hospice physician and US Civil Surgeon, providing immigration medical examinations. He has previously served on his local hospital board of directors and in hospital leadership as: family practice chair, credentials committee chair, chief of staff, and on the hospital ethics committee.
